A change in format...

Hey all!

I know it's been awhile and I've been trying to decide what to do with this blog as my posts keep disappearing and I keep getting emails from Blogger about how my blog is on their radar for some reason...So I've decided to change things up for a bit.

I hope that this doesn't ruffle any feathers out there!

I've just recently gotten the set up to rip the massive amount of vinyl that I have to mp3 and of course I've been working on that alot lately. So, what I've decided to do for the time being is to offer all you some FULL LENGTH vinyl rip packages.

I rip them, then try to remaster them for the best quality I can get. Sometimes the vinyl pressings are excellent, sometimes not, but for whatever songs I don't have good digital copies of or for tracks that weren't released digitally, this is how it will be for a bit.

I hope you all continue to support me on this endeavor and links will follow soon!

**ANTHEM ALERT!!! I don't even know where to start with this one! It surprised the hell outta me as I grew up listening to Judy and while I loved her remake of "Faithfully" I was really hoping to get something original from her. Well her follow-up, the awkward "I Don't", was so below the radar I thought that would be it for her "comeback". I was COMPLETELY wrong! This may be one of my favorite tracks of 2008! Here Judy tackles the subject of spousal abuse (with a hysterical rap and all) and of course some killer F**k You lyrics like 'Hang up, get your stuff and don't look back! If he can't show you respect you better pack your bags!'! Tony and Warren have produced an Offer Nissim-esque mix here but it's thunderous and I very much welcome Miss Torres back to where she should be!!**

Just a small posting for now to keep everyone going. I'm also going to try something a little different. I love editing mixes and all but I also love mashing things up and trying to create some of my own...

This is the newest one Im working on and while it still needs to have things tweaked (the track needs to be transposed still to make the chords the same key as the vocals) Im really happy with the structure of the mix itself.

Wow. 2 months almost to the day it's been!!!

I have to apologize to you all but it's been a wild and bumpy road in my life lately. I've been having to switch schools (and btw if anyone ever thinks about going to a Paul Mitchell Partner School to pursue a career in hairdressing--DON'T DO IT!!! IT'S A WASTE OF MONEY!!!), work more hours and deal with alot of family drama that's been popping up left and right lately.

Which all translates into an exhausted John Michael and as much as I hate to admit it, my blog was one of the things that slipped through the cracks along the way.

I definitely want to come back and post more, but I apologize once again to you all, I'm going to have to keep requests CLOSED for the time being. I don't know how often I'll get to post but I will try my hardest. If and when the time should come again for requests, I will let you know.

I know it's been awhile everyone but I started a really crazy schedule after I got back from celebrating my anniversary and 3 days a week I do 12 hour days, so I'm gonna try to do what I can, but it may just take me some time to get stuff up! Thanks for understanding!!

Charlotte Perrelli - Hero (JM's Club Radio Edit)

**She looks like Kristine W and sounds like a love child of Jenna Drey, Danielle Bollinger and Lara Fabian. In her home country of Sweden, this won the 2008 Melodifestivalen (which is the contest that Sweden has to determine who's representing them in the Eurovision song contest) and when she got to the Eurovision contest she placed 18th. In the charts though this went right to #1 in Sweden and was in the top 20 of a few other countries. The song is a great vocal with a very electro, yet Soundfactory type sound to it. I don't know who actually produced this as I got it labeled as "Extended Club Mix" (does anyone know??) but it's a great song all over and needs to be recognized!!**

Chris Brown - Forever (JM's Bobby Bass & J Remy Radio Edit)

**This is definitely one of my new obsession songs (especially after seeing it on So You Think You Can Dance). I have to say, I'm really happy with the direction that pop/R&B music is going these days. They've got great beats with awesome synth work and hooks for days! This song in it's original form was just begging to come to the dance floor and through the work of Bobby Bass & J Remy it got there. Who they are, I'm not sure, but from all the mixes I've heard thus far this is definitely the best. It's got some beat changes and a really uplifiting sound that keeps with the original. In the beginning I added the original intro synths and the "1,2,3,4" chant to give it a little extra UMPH!**

Coldplay - Viva La Vida (JM's Telemitry Radio Edit)

**I LOVE THIS SONG!!! Finally, me and the hubby have another song we meet on! He's always been a huge Coldplay fan and well, I couldn't really care less about them lol...that is...till I heard this song!! I instantly fell in love with it because of it's melody and string line that they use as well as the song having a pretty steady beat to it. I've found a few mixes of this song (including that AWFUL cover that Almighty did--Good mix, just terrible female vocals) and as it stands, this is the best. I'm looking for the accapella for this song so I too can make my own mix--If anyone out there has it, I'd be EVER so greatful!! This mix though has some great vocal stutters and whoever Telemitry is, they are to be commended for making such a great mix with the original track which usually doesn't work out so well for most!**

**This was a song I was sleeping on for awhile and then (again) I saw this on So You Think You Can Dance and fell in love with it. In it's original form, it's very Amy Winehouse-esque minus the whole Meth addiction lol. Gareth Wyn (whoever he may be) did a fantastic job in bringing this to the dance floor and it sounds so natural, something I would've never expected this song to sound like with a beat. **It was bound to happen right?? Well it's finally come to be and I have to say while the original is a disco classic and all, it was never one of my favorites. Bimbo Jones however does have that magic touch and they gave this such a fresh sound that if it wasn't for the backup singers doing their "Dance! **Omg! I love this song! Haha! I was SO obsessed with this when it came out!! PSB came back with a vengeance and this song headed straight to the #1 spot on the dance charts. At the time (1999) I was heavily involved in the NYC club scene so naturally I assumed that this song was written about ME! Hahaha!! **Ok, so we all know Aqua from their cheese-smash hit "Barbie Girl" but there was life for the group after that. This song, the second single from their second CD "Aquarius" had Aqua changing their "Barbie Girl" style to a more anthemic sound and who better to take that on than Junior?? Say what you want, but I always thought this was a slammin mix because the melody and structure of the song allow for a very grandiose production from Junior and that's where I like him best! The original mix which clocks in at 13 min & 40 sec here gets trimmed down to about 4 and change. Definitely get ahold of the full mix. It's totally worth it!!**

Laura Turner - Soul Deep (JM's Junior Vasquez Radio Edit)

**Laura Turner to me, is one part Sarah Brightman and one part Delerium. Being that she sounds very similar to Sarah Brightman, I immediately loved this song when I got a promo of the original. I was VERY shocked to see that this song made it's way to Junior's lap. Junior takes the song as far away from the original as possible, giving her voice a nice echo effect and using some real tribal drums throughout.**

**This was the song that started my love affair with Anastacia (born Anastacia Lyn Newkirk). At this time I was basically in Sam Goody every day ravaging the CD single section looking for anything that had Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Tony Moran & Thunderpuss on it. When I found this, I didn't really know who she was but if it had Hex on the single, it was good enough for me! THANK GOD I bought this!! A fantastic vocal from Anastacia (she became my new Taylor Dayne) and a thumping mix from Hex made for some dance music drama which still holds up today! **Jessica's lead single from her third CD of the same name started to show a slightly more mature Jessica and definitely a sexier Jessica as she sings about how irresistible her beau is. Bonus Edit: This one is a special request from DM (I hope you like it!) and has to be one of the most challenging mixes I've ever taken on. The first 45 seconds were a nightmare for me as I was wracking my brain trying to chop out Thunderpuss' very long intro to this mix. This one was never officially released but thank God it leaked. I never understood why the Above & Beyond mix was such a big to-do with this song as it just never really did anything for me, and the mix was even used in the video for this song as well. ::shrug::

This mix also had a lot of controversy surrounding it as Barry Harris explained in an interview with About.com. This also shows the negative effect mis-labeling mixes can cause. It's one of my biggest pet peeves:

Barry Harris: We did what I thought was a really kick-ass job of "What It Feels Like For A Girl," and we did it early, like two or three months ahead of time. Everybody knew that we were working on it and someone somewhere took the original album version of "What It Feels Like For A Girl," put it on the net and said it was a Thunderpuss mix. That's all they had to do, and that messed everything up. Someone at Warners said they saw a Thunderpuss mix was already on the net and people are already downloading it. That started this fire within the record company and Madonna, and we were like "no, it's not our mix", we have not done anything. They just cancelled our entire mix, period, and that was it, the end of story. It's that simple. We worked with them again later and everything was cool. But it was just such an annoying, stupid reaction that people freaked-out over what wasn't true and our mix wasn't on there, when we worked so very hard and put so much blood, hard guts and soul into it. We did three recalls, because we weren't happy with it. We'd play it out on the weekends and put a lot of heart into that, only to have that stupid situation snuff it out. That was rather disappointing, but I'm over it now. There's my whine story for ya!

Offer Nissim

I love this man! I had known about him for awhile behind the scenes as the producer for the majority of Dana International's records but when I started looking more into his own projects I was blown away!!

FINALLY someone had come along with a new sound in dance music and gave the front runners something to be worried about! Chock full of Israeli and Middle Eastern influences, he truly brought the gorgeousness back to dance music. His music is as theatrical as he is (go see him live if you ever get the chance--it's surreal!) and he conducts his orchestra as such. He needs no further introduction...

Offer Nissim feat Maya - Perfect Love (JM's Full Vocal Radio Mix)
**When I first heard this song I had VERY high hopes because I was huge fan of the original House Of Prince version of it. Well I have to say that this mix is just as good as the original without actually being any better because it has some different elements (I gag over his vocal stutters in this one) that work perfectly with the song structure. **I love the versatility that DJ's have. That's one of the main reasons I love dance music. It really allows for any type of creativity to be expressed in so many different forms. It actually took me a long time to appreciate this mix. Janet gives a fun pop vocal but not a strong vocal in this one and I didn't think it would hold up under a heavy dance beat. **Ok, I admit it, I just don't know how to get this mix ANY shorter than this, and this one clocks in at 7:10! **I always find it interesting when these DJ's remix non-English speaking artists because I've always wondered if the process is different. Like, how do they know which lyric sample to use? What should they be looping?? How do they know they're not just sampling the word "The" over and over again because it's in Japanese or whatever the language is?? Well, TRF (which actually stands for Tetsuya Komuro Rave Factory) is a Japanese band (made up of DJ Koo, Vocalist Yu-Ki and dancers Chiharu, Etsu & Sam), but they decided here to try their hand at English. Sometimes it works and sometimes, not so much lol. The vocal I've always enjoyed and TRF continues to enjoy success to this day in Japan. JP takes on this song originally released in 1996 but TRF has also been remixed by Thunderpuss, Soul Solution and Dezrok to name a few!**

**This is probably my favorite Rockell song ever!! Rockell is pissed off to no end here and she's gonna tell us ALL about it--With the help of JP of course! As angry as Rockell gets (with lyrics like "Who do you think you're fooling?/Love ain't a game to be played/My heart is empty/Like the promises you made/But now I'm getting stronger/And I don't need you any longer.") is as agressive as JP gets with some of the best distorted synths I've ever heard. The CD single came with a radio edit, full mix, a dub and the "dirty mix" which is really more of a mixshow. So I took the mixshow and I chopped it up a bit and added my favorite part of the full mix which is the synth line that comes in at 3:57 (stunning!) and then brought it all back. My other favorite part is when Rockell goes "Did you hear that?/No, you don't know that sound/Well it's all the shit you did to me/And it's coming around."--WERQ!!!**

Hey everyone! I'm very excited about this post! I actually had the VERY great honor to be the opening DJ for Chris Cox (that's me and him!) when he played in NYC at Spirit and let me tell you--Aside from being one of the best nights of my life, he was the NICEST person ever!! The minute he walked into the booth I started sweating lol. I was playing Inaya Day's cover of "Nasty Girl" when he walked in and he was like "Oooh! I hear a Vanity 6 sample!" and I said "Oh, this is Inaya Day's cover of Nasty Girl" and he just went "Oh nice! I like it!"...and it kinda blew my mind he hadn't heard it but I guess that's what happens when you're so involved in the industry!

Tony Moran is going to be DJing in DC at Town on August 9th and I am NOT missing it!! This story is the one I wrote after to going out for my birthday in 2006. I went to see Junior Vasquez at Cielo and then later that night went to Alegria (at Crobar) to see Tony.

I'm sitting here right now, trying to reflect on what exactly went on last night. My mind is still blown.

To try and pay tribute to my night seems almost trite. How can I really put into words what can only be described as a full body experience?

For those of you who aren't avid house-heads like me, think about the band you love the most and seeing them in an incredible venue with an amazing sound system, playing all of your favorite songs and sounding like sheer perfection. That's the closest thing I can come to for an explanation.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let me start at the beginning.

It's around 8:30 and I'm driving to pick up my friend Bobby. Originally we were going to take the ferry in and whatnot, but I veto-ed that idea when I felt just how cold it was and knowing how spoiled I am with my car, I knew driving in was my only option.

I knew that tonight was going to be special for a few reasons:

1) This starts my birthday week celebration (Haha!)
2) I was going to see Junior Vasquez (ALWAYS a good time!)
3) I was going to see Tony Moran @ Alegria (I had never heard him spin and had never been to an Alegria party as yet.)
4) I was going with a good group of my boys (Bobby, Billy & his friend Kevin)

To say I was pumped up about all this is a real understatement.

After we got to Billy's apartment and had a few drinks, we were on our way to Cielo to see Her Royal Highness, Junior Vasquez.

We got inside and it was MOBBED to say the least! There were people everywhere! Now, Cielo isn't a huge place and it usually plays house to some of the more disco/funky house DJ's like Little Louie Vega and such so I knew that I would be in for a different kind of Junior. However, any kind of Junior is alright by me.

As I had suspected, he kept things pretty funky for the majority of the night. The highlight for me was when he threw in "Nothingness" by Karmadelic feat Sandy B. Billy and I had just about freaked! Haha!

No matter what kind of music that man plays though, there's a story you can sense. It's a journey. There's an undercurrent of artistry there that you just don't get with alot of DJ's and when you're hearing a song that's been remixed or produced by Junior, you know it. Everything has it's place and the place is perfect. Being such a Junior freak, you'll think I'm biased and maybe I am, but that's what made my night so great!

The only downfall to the evening was that Cielo was having problems with it's air conditioning and the place was like a turkish sauna. 100's of people packed into a small venue and it was sweltering.

Side note: I spent most of the night dancing next to a very messy Carson Kressley from Queer Eye From The Straight Guy. Let me tell you--It's amazing the things TV make-up can do! Yikes!

Some more highlights for me was hearing Junior's mixes of Beyonce's "Check On It", Pink's "Stupid Girl" & Vernessa Mitchell's "Love Will Find A Way". At around 1:30 though, I just couldn't take the heat anymore. I had been dancing non-stop and was dripping wet.

So back in the car we went and headed to Crobar.

Now, as I've said, I had never heard Tony Moran spin before. I've always loved his productions and mixes but sometimes DJ's can be a real let down when you get them behind the turntables (::cough::peterrauhofer::cough cough::). I had very high expectations though, aside from the $60 cover charge! Truth be told, I would've paid $100.

For me, and maybe this is strange, it takes more than just a good DJ to make a good event.

Yes, the DJ is the main part, but everyone involved needs to be going for the same goal and that means bouncers, coat check people, bathroom attendants, bartenders, ID checkers, security...etc... (Et Cetra! LoL Billy!!)

And from the get-go, everyone was respectful and very friendly. Always a good sign.

The first thing I was hit with was just HOW many people were there. I've never seen a space of that size inhabited by THAT many people before!!

First track as we walked in: "El Tigre" (Deep Influence Mix)

We all battled the crowd and made our way to the front right side of the stage and started dancing. The energy in the room was high and the music was as big room as it could be. Besides, in NY, there aren't many rooms bigger than Crobar, if any.

What happened next was nothing short of magical. So much in fact that it's hard to put it down into words.

But I'll try.

Let me start with a very bold statement: Never in all the years of my clubbing have I ever heard a DJ mix an entire evening of music so flawlessly.
Any expectations I had for this evening were met and then surpassed with ease.

Tony had his hand on the pulse of the event and over and over again kept jolting you with music that you could NOT stand still to, even in such small confines of dancing space.

One of my favorite things to see when I'm out is when you look into the crowd and everyone has their hands up in the air, singing along or just freaking out to the same thing you are. In an abstract way it's like being part of a huge family. You're all there for the same reason. Everyone wants to have a good time and everyone is doing their best to enhance their experience.

Tony Moran was the Mama and the lighting guy was the Papa. Haha!

It's hard to breakdown the night into highlights because every single song, even if I didn't know it, was incredible! Adjective's do it NO justice.

From what I can remember though:

Rosabel - "Rhythm Intoxication", Mariah Carey - "Don't Forget About Us" (Yeah, I freaked out to this one), Offer Nissim feat Maya - On My Own (Freaking out again!), Kim English - It Makes A Difference (Dub & Club Mix--The Dub was outstanding!)

But the piece de resistance for me was Tony's 2006 Re-Do of Mary J Blige's "Your Child". For anyone who knows this song, you know the Junior Vasquez mix. Junior's mix is and was still great but I have to say (and you know this is serious!), Tony's mix made me say "Junior who???". He completely ripped through that song like nothing I've heard in my life!!! I almost danced to the entire song with my hand covering my mouth because I just couldn't believe what I was hearing!!!

Then Alegria favorite, Zhana Saunders, came on stage to perform her new Alegria song, "Cafe Con Alegria". She looked and sounded amazing!!
Just then, the released about 2 tons of confetti! There is no way to describe what it looked like, felt like, sounded like...am I becoming redundant yet?? lol

They also released napkins from the ceiling to wipe yourself off with, which I thought was an awesome idea, albeit illegal (Thanks Billy! lol).

Even now, I have so many memories and recollections going through my mind it's hard to think about it all and get it all down here.

Somewhere around 7AM Bobby and I left and we made the LONGEST journey home of our lives haha!

My birthday is actually this Friday, but this is the weeklong celebration and I can't imagine a better way to start it off!

I hope that you can get some kind of incling what it was like. I'm officially addicted to Alegria and Tony Moran. It was a complete re-affirmation of why I love this music and why I love this lifestyle.

Tony Moran, you are a God among men. Alegria was just a mere love song from you to us and we all felt loved.

**When 80's diva Shannon had her mini-resurgence back in 2000 with the Hex Hector remix of "Give Me Tonight", I figured we were welcoming back a dance diva to the floor. Where did we go wrong?? After the #1 success of "Give Me Tonight", she released 2008 mixes of "Let The Music Play" which only hit #32 which is interesting cause originally in the 80's "Let The Music Play was a #8 song for her whereas "Give Me Tonight" stalled at #46. At any rate, Shannon released her 4th studio CD "The Best Is Yet To Come" and her original producer, Chris Barbosa was asked to rejoin her as was Tony Moran. Aside from her two classics, two more songs from the CD were remixed, this one by Eddie Baez who did a fantastic job and "Intimate" which was taken on by Plasmic Honey. She sounds just as god as she did then and needs to come back...er...again!!!**

**This song, the fourth single from her "Whitney: The Greatest Hits" CD only found Whit at #51 on the charts, but there were two very good remixes that popped up along the way, one by Junior Vasquez and this one by Rob Girellini. I don't know much about Rob but that the few mixes of his I've heard I've liked. This one is a really high energy mix which results in Whitney losing it around 2:45 and throughout to the rest of the song. How many times do you think she says the word "Fine" in this song? lol**
